WandaVision gets spooky in its latest episode: All-New Halloween Spooktacular!

WandaVision Episode 6 releases in very spooky fashion producing a Halloween special of the show…when we are in February.  The chapter being cleverly titled, “All-New Halloween Spooktacular!”, is set in the 90s era of sitcom television— applying heavy inspiration from Malcolm in the Middle—showing the vibrant palette and the homemade aesthetic of the decade.   Halloween is the holiday of showing your true self through portrayals of your favorite characters, and this is heavily represented as each character is seen wearing their comic accurate costumes in the special.  The chapter presents to us peculiar twists and turns while also opening up the wound on what is happening inside Westview.  Vision explores the boundaries of the town while Wanda and Pietro take the children trick or treating as each of the two boys unlock some of their hidden powers, revealing their comic counterparts: Wiccan and Speed.  At the ending period of the chapter, the episode takes a dark and sinister turn as Vision explores the outer rim of the Hex (guess it is catching on) and notices the several “NPC”s frozen in place as if they’re empty husks. Vision sees Agnes as well, sitting in a vehicle staring blankly out into the darkness of Ellis street.  Agnes seems out of control while also very well aware of the current situation she is in.  Agnes knows something that the viewer does not, the question is: what does she know?

Wanda’s twin brother, Pietro also makes an appearance as the “cool uncle” of the family, causing mischief with the children.  While Wanda embraces him as part of the family, she still seems curious as to why Pietro is so different from the last time she was with him years ago, it’s as if he’s a completely different person.  Pietro tries to clarify this as he states that “Details are fuzzy, man. I got shot like a chump in the street for no reason at all, and the next thing I know, I heard you calling me. I knew you needed me.” Pietro is almost just as confused as Wanda is on why his appearance is vastly different from his look in Avengers: Age of Ultron. all he remembers is the fact that she called him. During this, Vision tries to escape Westview by clawing his way out of the Hex, being torn apart in the process.  Vision hopes to assist the S.W.O.R.D organization before it is too late for him, but his sacrifice was merely for nothing. Wanda extended the hexagon’s range to save Vision in the big twist of the episode, engulfing the entire S.W.O.R.D base and transforming it into a traveling circus, mocking the organization.   Wanda is starting to abuse her powers at a level that could be harmful to others around her, a lot more harmful than she is now.

Evan Peters, Elisabeth Olsen, and Paul Bettany in “WandaVision”

Before the huge twist, Monica Rambeau and her trio try to find a way to get into the universe by creating some vehicular fortress that will shield them from the hex. Monica hires an aerospace engineer to create such a vessel but still hasn’t identified who this individual is. Could this be Reed Richards or someone else from the Marvel Universe?  Most people are leaning towards Reed Richards as the engineer since Disney recently acquired the rights to the franchise from FOX, as well as the X-Men movie rights.  From the looks of it, The Disney+ marvel shows could be the most accessible way to introduce new characters to the universe as it is undoubtedly the easiest way.

Another question that many viewers have been asking is that of the new Quicksilver’s origin since the question of how he got into the Hex is still unknown.  The primary theory that is going around is that the supreme sorcerer himself, Dr. Strange, recruited the speedster to investigate Wanda and her inhuman abilities.  It makes the most sense as to why he is there but why would the character voluntarily apply for the job? it benefits him in no way.  I guess the answer to this question would be answered in future episodes, but from what we’ve seen, it’s hard to predict.  Monica Rambeau plays a vital part in this series being the gateway between the two worlds of the show. After her departure in the 4th episode of the sitcom, Monica’s molecules have been altered in such a way that could result in her becoming her comic counterpart: Spectrum.  She has been confirmed to be in the Captain Marvel sequel with her role being unknown.

WandaVision star Randall Park is unsure if he'll be in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Randall Park as Agent Woo in “WandaVision”

FBI guy, Agent Woo, has conjured up a fan-base of followers wanting him to star in his own series solving strange cases in the Marvel Universe, almost like a weird X-Files series.  The character has appeared only in the movie, Antman and the Wasp, and the WandaVision series as comedic relief in both forms of media.  The actor, Randall Park, has already expressed his views on the idea in an interview hosted by NME. “I think that’s a great idea,” Randal added, “Something like that would be very cool to be a part of, It’s already such a dream to be in the Marvel universe, and to be able to keep playing Jimmy Woo would be incredible.”

Kat Dennings—who plays Darcy Lewis in WandaVision— also approves the idea of an Agents of Atlas series.

WandaVision is a massive hit. To be able to get the audience intrigued into such a complex and bizarre plot is incredible for cinema as a whole. WandaVision starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany airs new episodes weekly on the amazing streaming service: Disney+.
